THE nephew of Potters Bar Town manager Steve Browne has been selected for the Turkish Euro 2008 squad.
While England failed to reach this summer's championships, to be held in Austria and Switzerland, London-born Colin Kazim-Richards will be there.
The Fenerbahce player, who qualifies to play for Turkey through his Turkish Cypriot mother, has been watched throughout his career by the Scholars boss.
It has been a meteoric rise to prominence for the 21-year-old, who only moved away from England in June 2007.
Browne said: "Before Colin went to Turkey he had been relegated from the Premier League with Sheffield United.
"He's gone from that to playing in the Champions League, scoring against Chelsea in the quarter-finals, and has now been selected for the squad for the full national side.
"It could not have gone better; the whole family is chuffed to bits."
Kazim-Richards began his footballing career with Bury before being transferred to Brighton, then Sheffield United, who he played for in the Premier League.
The forward made the move to the Turkish club side a year ago, signing a four-year contract.
In April the East Londoner made the headlines after scoring for Fenerbahce against Chelsea in the Champions League.
Browne added: "It was a major decision for him to go to a new country.
"He has family over there that he did not really know, so it's been a major upheaval for him."
After representing the Turkey U21 team, Browne's nephew soon made the next international step up to Fatih Terim's full squad.
Browne added: "He played for the U21s, scored on his debut and made quite an impression.
"Soon after he was in the full squad, it's been a massive rise in a year."
The Parkfield gaffer may well be heading to Euro 2008 to watch his relative if he gets the opportunity.
"If there's a chance we can go out and watch him we will, a lot of the family will be going," Browne added: "We are proud of what he has achieved."
