POTTERS Bar Town turned the form-book on its head as they won 3-2 away at promotion hopefuls Ware on Saturday.

The Scholars had lost their last three league games with their weekend opponents unbeaten in eight matches, so the result was largely unexpected.

A committed and hard-working Town side went ahead through Gary Wright, but they then found themselves 2-1 down after strikes from Chris Ellerbeck and Joe Stevens.

Sam Adejokun levelled for Bar 10 minutes from full time before Billy Crowther hit the all-important winner.

Ware opened the game with a couple of half chances falling to forwards Ellerbeck and John Frendo, but their efforts were straight at Bar goalkeeper Ashlee Jones.

The Scholars opened the scoring on seven minutes when a corner was punched to the edge of the box by home keeper Luke Woods.

Wright was waiting to smash it back through a crowd of players and into the back of the net.

The Blues were level midway through the period when Ellerbeck finished from a Stevens cross.

Potters Bar continued to cause problems in the second half. A Wright shot was too hot to handle for Malta U21 stopper Woods, who fumbled the ball but was able to recover.

The Wodson Park club then took the lead. Frendo set away Stevens, who rounded Jones and side-footed home into the empty net.

Despite being behind, Bar always looked dangerous and appeared more likely to add to the score.

Getro Kilapi was denied by a superb challenge from home defender Stuart Hammonds and a snap shot from Victor Renner narrowly went over.

The equalising goal arrived with little more than 10 minutes of the game remaining.

With Ware unable to take a couple of opportunities to clear their lines, the ball fell to Adejokun.

The striker fired through a crowd of players from the edge of the box against the foot of the post and in.

Six minutes later Bar found themselves in the lead.

For a second time a poor clearance from the back four fell to Crowther.

He hit an unstoppable shot past Woods and into the roof of the net to win the game for Town.

Ware huffed and puffed but could not find a way back into the game.

The Scholars finished 2007 with the win and will be hoping to begin 2008 with another victory.

A tricky away game will see them travel to sixth-placed Maldon Town in the league on Saturday.
