SHERRARDSWOOD Ladies retained second spot in the Beds & Herts Women's League with a 3-0 win at Watton Ladies.

Jax Bryceland hit another two goals for the Welwyn outfit on Sunday, while winger Ellen Hemson grabbed the third to keep her side's unbeaten away record intact.

The Welwyn side went into the game knowing they had to win to stay in second place and keep ahead of the chasing pack.

SLFC started off nervously, knowing they had lost 4-2 to Watton earlier in the season.

In the first 10 minutes the visitors had to defend deep in their own half to fend off shots from Watton.

Keeper Paula Collis once again pulled off some early saves to keep the score goalless.

Once Sherrardswood got going they pushed on fast with breaks from the midfield.

Playmaker Katie Jones dominated the midfield alongside Louise Love.

They played out balls to the wingers and supplied attacking passes into the paths of strikers Jules Comerford and Bryceland.

Just before half-time a long goal kick from Collis was headed on by Comerford into the path of Bryceland.

She picked up the ball just past the centre circle and ran at the goalkeeper.

Keeping composed, the forward slotted the ball neatly to the right side of the keeper for a 1-0 lead going into the break.

Substitute right back Andie Herbert came on for Naomi Swift in the second half.

Sherrardswood began to dominate play after the interval and scored twice more.

The first came from a corner delivered high into the box from Love.

Comerford connected with it but hit the bar with her strike and Bryceland came crashing in to put the ball into the back of the net.

Sherrardswood's third goal came from another corner. Sue Hart this time delivered it and Watton defenders failed to clear and substitute Ellen Hemson put pressure on the defender.

She struck the ball, which took a deflection off the defender, and it went into the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.

At this point in the game sub striker Maggie Hall was brought on in place of Comerford, who for the second week had an outstanding game in attack.

Sherrardswood had little to do at the back and when called upon Kristie Donovan and Jo Meakins cleared up any attempted attacks by Watton.

A fantastic Donovan run from the halfway line saw her create a chance for herself out of nothing.

She dribbled past several opponents, before chipping the ball over the backline and running in on goal. Unfortunately her effort was cleared off the line.

A scare did see away keeper Collis go down after twisting her ankle.

The stopper got up and continued making saves look easy after her injury.

In midfield, player of the match Jones again played in some quality passes, linking up play with strikers and SLFC could have scored more.

Sherrardswood Ladies are at home on Sunday in the league to third from bottom Arlesey Ladies.
