SHERRARDSWOOD Ladies lost 3-0 at home in the league to Leverstock Green on Sunday.

The game was a dress-rehearsal for the Beds & Herts County Women's League Cup Final, where the two sides will meet again in May.

At the weekend both teams were out to prove something, not just for the cup match, but to go second in the table.

The first 10 minutes saw Sherrardswood nearly score with three corners delivered from Sue Hart.

Her crosses into the box, however, were cleared by an excellent Green defence.

After 20 minutes the away side had their hosts on the back foot and took the lead.

A pass was laid on from the Leverstock midfield and their striker looped the ball over keeper Paula Collis and in.

The home side dug in and the game was a hard-fought battle in the midfield with excellent clearances and aerial battles from Sherrardswood's Louise Love keeping the game at 1-0.

Jax Bryceland then saw her header drift wide for the WGC side.

Leverstock scored again just before half-time to make it 2-0 at the break.

Sherrardswood came out fighting in the second half.

They tried to claw their way back into the game, but could not find a way through.

The Hemel-based side kept piling on the pressure and eventually grabbed goal number three.

The Sherrardswood girls never let their heads drop as they knew this was a strong test for them going into the cup final.

Although the score ended 3-0, this was no reflection of how well Sherrardswood had played.

On Sunday they are away to Sandy Ladies in the league.
