Semi-final place secured for Welwyn Pegasus U15 Royals after Enfield win

Welwyn Pegasus U15 Royals moved into the semi-finals of the MHRML League Cup after a highly impressive 4-1 win away to Pro Direct Academy Enfield.
It was a battling performance against a home side who had already accounted for two Premier Division scalps so far in the cup, Real Stortford, who they beat 8-1, and Letchworth Garden City, beaten 4-0.
And in the face of that Welwyn knew they had to be competitive from the start.
Fortunately that was the case when Josh Staddon got the first goal with a stunning strike from 25 yards that ended up in the top left corner of the net.
They doubled the lead from a corner kick. Royals centre back Tom Saunders was first to react, his diving header at the near post glanced past the home keeper into the top right of the goal.
Pro Direct Enfield did manage to pull a goal back after a good cross from the left found the Royals defence napping and a strike at the near post gave Welwyn’s Louie Miracco no chance.
But Pegasus grabbed the initiative back when the Pro Direct keeper failed to deal with a powerful shot from the edge of the box from Royals’ captain Fin Wheeler and Conor Garrett was on hand to fire in the rebound.
And Joe Ashton completed the scoring for Welwyn when he converted from a tight angle.
The Welwyn management team of Steve Manhood, Richard Wheeler and coach Harry Dalby were delighted at the final whistle.
Manhood said: “We’re delighted with the win and the overall progression the team has made so far this season.
“And we’re over the moon with the team’s eighth MHRML win in all competitions on the trot.”
Welwyn will now play the winners of Chars Youth or Ware Youth on March 10 in the semi-final.
