GOALS from Sam Adejokun and Andrew Thomas guided Potters Bar Town into the quarter-finals of the Herts Senior Cup after they beat Hertford Town 2-1.

The Ryman Division One North side took the game to their visitors from the off and could have taken a first minute lead.

However, Blues' keeper Lee Robinson made a smart save at close range.

Steve Browne's men were looking quicker than Hertford and caught them out within five minutes.

Adejokun had a simple tap in from a couple of yards with the opposition's defence still trying to sort themselves out.

Junior Dadson could have put the hosts two up but he fired into the side netting on six minutes as the Scholars looked to sew the game up early on.

They did double the advantage mid-way through the half from the penalty spot.

Robinson rushed out to stop Carl Wilson-Dennis from having a clear run on goal but clattered into the forward after he played the ball.

The referee pointed to the spot and booked the custodian.

Thomas stepped up to fire Bar 2-0 in front.

Hertford finally came to terms with the pace of their hosts mid-way through the first half.

A good move on 27 minutes involving Lee Roberts and Kevin Cooper saw the ball fall to Nicky Burt. But he hit the ball weakly at home keeper Ashlee Jones.

The East Herts side did have a couple more chances to get back into the game before the break.

Jones did well to pluck the ball off Glenn Draper's head as the big defender was set to head home a free-kick.

Then as the half came to a close away striker Ryan Redford shot weakly at Jones, who then tipped another one of his efforts around the post.

In the second half the Scholars turned up the heat a little and substitute Duane Jackman had a great opportunity to score.

He found himself free with only a despairing Robinson to beat.

After rounding the keeper he placed his shot wide into the side netting.

With eight minutes to go Hertford were presented with a gift to get back into the match.

Home keeper Jones clashed with Goss and was sent off with the Blues given a penalty of their own.

Cooper stepped up to score the spot kick.

The Parkfield club slowed the game down to ensure they took the result.

In January Bar will entertain Hemel Hempstead Town in the next round.
