Josh Hutchinson struck twice in the first half to secure Potters Bar Town a 2-0 home win against Romford in Saturday’s FA Trophy preliminary round.
In the next stage, on Saturday October 19, Adam Lee’s Scholars will face a trip to Whitstable of the Ryman League Division One South who knocked out Sittingbourne 5-1.
Against Romford, a hard fought game saw neither side gain an ascendency early on.
However, a great run and through ball from Matt Clifford found Hutchinson in the box and the striker finished well.
The former Cheshunt forward scored a second 15 minutes later as he produced another fine finish to put the hosts 2-0 to the good at the break.
A second half improvement from Romford failed to create any clear cut efforts as the home defence of Lewis Impleton, Wes Beckles and Fabion Simms stood firm.
They were the bedrock of a fine win to seal their side’s progression.
Tomorrow night (Tuesday) Bar are scheduled to entertain Aylesbury United at the Pakex Stadium in the Calor Southern League Division One Central.
Going into that match Potters Bar have gone three league games without a win after draws with Dunstable Town and Egham Town and a 6-0 loss at Marlow.
This weekend Bar head out on the road as they make the trip to St Ives Town.
