POTTERS Bar Town fell to a second consecutive Ryman League defeat last Tuesday night when Maldon Town beat them 2-1 at Parkfield.
Playing their first game for 10 days, the Scholars went behind midway through the first half to a Matt Cutchey header.
James Archer equalised for the home side in the second period but the Blues' winner came soon after from Steve Wareham.
Due to postponed games and opponents being otherwise engaged in FA Trophy action, Steve Browne's team had gone more than a week without a competitive match ahead of the visit by Maldon.
A wet evening for both sets of players didn't deter them from playing some very good football from the start.
What chances there were early on fell to Potters Bar with a Jamal Fyfield cross evading everyone following good work down the left.
Bar were having the best of the midfield battle with former St Albans City player Hector Mackie and Archer combining well but the Maldon defence was well marshalled by Ollie Blackwell, leaving goalkeeper Darren Gould with little to do.
The Parkfield crowd of around 50 was made to wait until the 25th minute for the first goal.
It went to the Essex side as a Ross Parmenter cross was met by the head of midfielder Cutchey, who put Maldon one up.
Fast flowing football was played until the interval, but neither team could find the back of the net or even give either goalkeeper much to worry about.
It was Bar who looked to chase the game after the break.
The home side almost got the goal they deserved after just two minutes of the second period as a Carl Wilson-Dennis cross found Archer, who saw his shot sail over the top.
Moments later the Scholars almost equalised again as Junior Dadson outpaced the Maldon defence, only to see his cross evade the oncoming Wilson-Dennis.
The Scholars' efforts were rewarded after 54 minutes.
An Archer bullet shot squeezed under keeper Gould and into the net.
This seemed to make Maldon determined to regain their lead, which they duly did.
Striker Wareham was put through and he slotted in past goalkeeper Ashlee Jones.
Despite the setback, the Scholars continued to play some impressive football and create a number of good scoring opportunities.
They came close to retrieving something from the game with two chances in the final couple of minutes.
First Mackie ran into the box only to see his shot saved by Gould.
Moments later, a desperate scramble in the Maldon box saw Wilson-Dennis mishit his shot into the arms of the grateful Maldon keeper.
Despite piling on the pressure, Bar failed to grab another goal and fell to a home defeat.
