Potters Bar Town 1 Waltham Abbey 2
TWO first-half Waltham Abbey goals at Parkfield proved enough to beat derby rivals Potters Bar Town 2-1 in the Ryman League Division One North.
The Scholars found themselves one down within 10 minutes of kick-off after Abbey top scorer James Elmes netted.
Billy Crowther levelled for Bar but on the stroke of half-time Murat Karagul hit the back of the net for what turned out to be the winner.
The Abbotts, who had been beaten 5-0 by Ware in their previous match, started the game slowly as Steve Browne's men really went at them last Tuesday night.
Despite their early pressure, Town failed to find a way past Abbey keeper John Hickman and were made to pay for not capitalising.
The Essex side, who had lost their four previous league games and had not even scored a goal, took the lead on nine minutes when a Louis Collins cross was driven in by Elmes.
Potters Bar responded and duly equalised as Crowther found a gap at the back post to score.
As the break approached, it looked like the sides would go in all square but the visitors had other ideas.
With almost the last kick of the half Karagul got a touch on Denny Webb's corner to turn it into the net for 2-1.
The second period saw the visitors cling on to the three points as the Scholars slumped to their third defeat in five league games.
Potters Bar face a tough league game at Wodson Park on Saturday when they travel to free-scoring promotion hopefuls Ware.
