SHERRARDSWOOD & Birchwood Rangers Under-14s collected their MHRML Premier Division runners-up trophies at a league presentation on Sunday.

The side had an excellent season with most of it at the top of the table, winning 17 games out of 22 and scoring 72 goals.

That was not quite enough to win the title as they finished behind Cheshunt FC.

However, it was still a great result with a small squad of just 14 players.

Rangers held their end of season presentations at Roe Hill Hall in Briars Lane, Hatfield, the previous Friday.

Elliott Johnson was named as both player's player and player of the season.

Manager Mick Allen said Elliott won the player of the season award because of his "sheer grit and determination".

Robert Smith was second in the player of the season with Ben Corbett behind him in third place.

Although an award for it was not given, this season saw the 1,000th goal scored by the team since its formation in October 2000.

That was scored by Johnson, who was the season's top scorer with 25 goals.

Robert Gayler netted 17, while Zack Neiman and captain Tom Hill hit 14.

The team, which trains in Hatfield on Wednesday evenings, is looking for more players for next season.

For more information call team secretary Nicholas Fraser on 01707 886975.
