A LATE winner from Louis Fitzgerald secured Welwyn Pegasus Under-10s Royals a 2-1 victory over Wheathampstead Tigers.

The Royals clinched the result two minutes from time with a winning goal from man of the match Fitzgerald.

Pegasus started strongly on a sunny day with good chances falling to Oliver Harris and James Wood before the hosts took the lead with a well-taken goal midway through the half.

Wheathampstead took inspiration from the goal and would surely have finished the half further ahead were it not for some timely interceptions from Thomas Collins and crucial blocks from keeper James Davies, who twice closed down the pacy Tigers striker.

The second half saw the Royals step up a gear and this was rewarded when James Wood cleverly picked up a ball that had been left by the home defence to run out of play.

He pulled it back to George Ansell, who returned it for Wood to hit the equalising goal from close range.

As the clock ran down, Louis then hit the winner to preserve the team's unbeaten start to the season.
