WELWYN Pegasus Royals Under-9s beat Prydun 5-1.

The Royals began strongly, although it was Prydun who scored first at the weekend.

They broke quickly and netted from the rebound after goalkeeper James Davies had done well to parry the initial shot.

Prydun defended their lead stoutly as the Royals continued to hog possession with some good passing play.

Tom Meenan achieved the breakthrough when he skipped past two defenders wide on the left before unleashing an unstoppable shot that flew into the net.

A great piece of passing football saw Tom Meenan, Louis Fitzgerald and Oliver Harris combine well to set up James Wood for the second goal.

The visitors began the second half strongly and Chester Davies, in goal in place of James, had to be alert to clear an effort straight from the kick-off.

Moments later, Chester punched clear from a free- kick.

James Davies came on as an outfield substitute midway through the half and helped to change the game.

He beat the left back for pace to deliver a cross for Wood whose well-struck goal re-established the team's superiority.

Another mazy run from the left saw Meenan tee-up Louis, who capped a fine performance with a goal.

Man of the match James Davies completed the scoring with a low shot to make it 5-1.
