Welwyn Garden City FC’s Development side won 3-1 away at Holmer Green.

Arriving as the floodlights failed on Tuesday, it looked like the game may be off before it had begun.

It was a temporary blip and a slightly later kick-off saw WGC set up featuring the returning Reggie Ross.

Ross was quick to open his account for the Development side after great work from Yasir Rashid put him in to expertly chip the keeper for 1-0.

After great work from Brad Dimmock and Nathan Isherwood the provider Rashid became scorer with a thunderous strike from 25 yards.

The second half was much the same with one-way traffic from an inspired WGC.

A Ross corner headed in by Rashid made it 3-0 as he bagged his fifth goal of the season in eight games.

An 89th minute Green penalty made it 3-1, but it was not enough to stop the young Citizens picking up all three points and sending them seventh in the SSML Development table.

After the game manager Russ Giblin said: “It was a superb performance from so many, Jason Coughlan, Robbie Steedman, Jack Francis, Mitchell Popham, Yasir and Reg.

“It easy doing this job when you have such class at your disposal.

“Hopefully we can finish strong with seven games remaining.

“I feel we can really be pushing for silverware next year.”
