Potters Bar Town and Whitstable Town will replay their FA Trophy first qualifying round tie tonight (Monday) after playing out a 2-2 draw which saw three red cards on Saturday.

The winners will earn a trip to Hythe Town in the second qualifying stage.

The Scholars had forged ahead in just the seventh minute at the weekend as Cole Penny headed home.

However, just three minutes later the score was 1-1 after Craig Thompson finished well for the hosts.

Adam Lee’s Bar side were dealt a blow just before the half-hour mark as defender Sean Grace was shown a red card for pulling back Charlie Smith.

After the break it was the 10 men from Hertfordshire who re-took the lead as Josh Hutchinson netted from the penalty spot after a foul in the box.

But that goal was not enough to send Town through to the second qualifying stage as Whitstable secured a replay when Joe Kane tucked home after keeper Tommy Glanville could only push out a shot.

That was not quite the end of the drama though, as before the end the referee dished out two more red cards.

He firstly dismissed the hosts’ Scott Heard for fouling Penny and then gave Bar substitute Tom Laxton his marching orders with a minute left.
