WGC Ladies maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 win over Northampton Town Ladies on Sunday.

The Lady Citizens had to work hard for this result against a Northampton side aiming to keep a clean sheet after their 7-0 drubbing the previous week.

Welwyn enjoyed most of the possession in the first half but had only a few half chances to show for all their efforts.

The second half was a different story with the WGC twin attack of Faye Rees and Naomi Lyon looking sharp.

The inevitable opener came from Lyon in the 21st minute.

A superb cross from Betts on the right wing found Lyon, who volleyed into the bottom right corner of the net.

Further Welwyn pressure led to Rees beating the offside trap to slot home the second six minutes later.

The Lady Citizens' defence, led by skipper Sheree Oliver, was rarely troubled.

WGC take on Tottenham Hotspur Ladies on Sunday, August 31.
