POTTERS Bar Town were beaten 3-1 at UniBond League side Leek Town in a friendly on Saturday.

In what was their final scheduled warm-up game before the Ryman League Division One North kicks off, the Scholars slipped to defeat.

Steve Browne's side went a goal down in the first 10 minutes when Ashley Miller curled one past keeper Dave Lovell.

However, Bar got themselves back on level terms just a couple of minutes later.

New striker Aaron Gayle equalised when he slid in to convert Andre Humphrey's low cross.

The hosts refused to panic after conceding and went back ahead before the break.

A cross was spilled by Lovell when challenged and Leek's Tommy Smith was on hand to put the ball over the line.

The home team added to their tally after half-time.

Richard Bailey made it 3-1 when he rode two challenges before smashing the ball high past Lovell and into the net.

Despite enjoying plenty of possession, Bar could not find the back of the net.

The visitors had a couple of efforts late on but a Humphrey header was saved and Sam Adejokun shot wide from distance.

Potters Bar will be looking for a much better result when they begin their league campaign this Saturday.

They face a tough opener as they entertain Leyton at Parkfield, kick-off 3pm.

Then on Wednesday Potters Bar have their first away game of the campaign at Thamesmead Town, kick-off 7.45pm.
