Potters Bar Town suffered their second consecutive 1-0 Southern League defeat on Saturday as they went down at home to Aylesbury United.

The loss came on the back of the same score at Uxbridge the previous Saturday.

Potters Bar were sluggish and ponderous and although they passed the ball well enough, they lacked urgency and real penetration.

The only goal of the game came just before the break as an Aylesbury corner was not properly cleared and the visitors had various attempts to score before they did.

The kick was headed out and returned into the box where Bill Morgan had a header cleared off the line, Paul Edgeworth had a shot blocked, before it was worked back to Jack Wood.

His first header was again blocked on the line, before the skipper nodded in the rebound.

After the break the Scholars’ biggest crowd of the season, 184, were looking for something a lot better from their side and eventually they got it.

However, the first 10 minutes were very reminiscent of the performance in the first half.

Gradually Bar improved, passed the ball quicker and made a number of more direct runs, particularly down the left-hand side through Evandro Delgado, but there was no end result as they suffered a second loss in a row.
