PEARTREE Wanderers defeated City FC 2-0 in the WHSFL Chairman's Cup play-off.

Division Three runners-up Wanderers started brightly against their Division Two opponents and had a host of early chances either well saved or off target.

The pressure eventually told midway through the first half last night (Wednesday) when Peartree deservedly took the lead at King George V.

A ball from the right fell to striker Mark Hemmings and he stuck it past the keeper from 18 yards.

City came back into the match later in the half. They were close to levelling when a bouncing effort was turned round the post by Peartree keeper Justin Davey.

Further attacking play by City FC was dealt with by the Peartree back four of Glenn Walker, Ollie Rouse, Richard Woodham and Sean Bilyard.

Peartree withstood some early pressure after the break before doubling their advantage.

Forward Dan Loo released Hemmings and his shot again found a way past the keeper and into the net.

Before the end Wanderers' player-manager Chris Harris had a good shout for a penalty.

He was brought down just inside the box. The ref blew his whistle but awarded a free-kick on the edge rather than pointing to the spot.
