A DRAMATIC late winner from Darren Owen secured Sherarrdswood and Birchwood Rangers Stripes Under-10s a 2-1 victory against Broxbourne Rangers.

With just two minutes remaining and the scores tied at one apiece, Owen turned an enthralling match on its head after Broxbourne had looked the most likely victors.

Stripes had earlier taken the lead after 17 minutes.

Jordan Dunbar and Matt Evans had both previously gone close when Jake Whitear netted.

He latched onto a loose ball and scrambled it over the line at the second attempt after the Broxbourne keeper had failed to hold a fierce drive from Owen.

Broxbourne looked dangerous on the break in the second half, but Stripes' Sebastian Melendez also caused them problems.

Dunbar had a shot cleared off the line for Sherrardswood before Rangers equalised following a lightning quick break from a corner.

With the strong wind behind them, Broxbourne went looking for the winner and would have claimed it but for a superb one-on-one save from Thomas Mallindine.

With time running out, a delightful reverse pass from Whitear sent Darren Owen clear and the striker kept his composure, rounded the last defender and fired crisply past the Broxbourne keeper to win it for Stripes.
