ADE Osobu netted a dramatic last-minute winner as Welwyn Garden City defeated Sun Postal Sports 4-3 in their last league game before Christmas.
After last Saturday’s 6-3 loss at Bedford, City boss Simon Braine and his side had hoped to get back to winning ways at Wodson Park last Wednesday night.
However, the game was postponed and so all attentions turned to the weekend’s trip to Sun Postal.
City started that game slowly and trailed 2-0 to the hosts with just 25 minutes on the clock.
Grant Avis and Dom David both netted for bottom of the table Sports who were searching for their first win in six games.
However, WGC struck twice in a minute to level with Tommy Kiernan and then Ryan Gordan netting around the half-hour mark.
After the break City took the lead through centre-half Tony Gotobed.
But in an encounter which continued to see goals flow, Sun Postal equalised through Dale Fisher after 60 minutes.
With half-an-hour to play either side could have snatched a winner and as time ticked by it seemed a draw was on the cards.
However, in the 90th minute striker Osobu was in the right place at the right time to get his name on the scoresheet and secure an overdue three points for the away side.
WGC’s man of the match was winger Jonathan Walsh.
The victory ended City’s run of four consecutive league defeats and was the second time this season that they had put four past Sun Postal as they defeated them 4-0 at Herns Lane in September.
City’s next SSML Division One game is on Tuesday, December 27, away at Cockfosters.
