STRIKER Matt Wheeler hit a hat-trick for Peartree Wanderers as they beat Thundridge United 3-0 in the Chairman's Cup Group B.

The Division Three promotion hopefuls comfortably saw off their Division Two rivals as they look for cup silverware in their debut season.

Wanderers took the lead on Sunday when Wheeler chased down a United defender.

As the ball was cleared, it hit the forward in the face. It landed perfectly for him in the box and he placed the ball past the keeper.

Early in the second half it was 2-0. This time a Lenny Hart close-range effort was parried by the keeper. The ball fell to Wheeler to tap home.

He completed his treble with a neat finish after a perfect cross from the right by substitute Matt Reed.

The Peartree back line of Jay Farrelly, Dave Twohig, Chris Harris and Sean Bilyard was rarely breached.

Meanwhile, the Wanderers midfield and forwards did enough to see out the rest of the game.
