In the Ultimate Football Welwyn Garden City Monday night six-a-side league, the new winter season got underway with some entertaining football on display.

Mark Beard FC, who finished the last campaign with a win, started this season in the same fashion as they bagged a 4-1 victory over Hedgehog FC in League One.

Niall Quinn opened the scoring before Ben Whybrow levelled for Hedgehog.

Charlie Bacon’s side could have taken the lead in the early stages of the second half but a counter-attack from Mark Beard enabled Frankie Wood to find the back of the net.

Wood struck again minutes later to increase the lead for Alex Clark’s side and it was Quinn who sealed the win as he picked up his second of the night.

Newly-promoted Blackpool looked cohesive in their Premiership tie with an out-of-sorts Tekkers Slovakia.

Goals from Dalton Fenton (two), Karim Winnan, David Willis and player-manager Steve Charles secured the points for the orange-jersey outfit. Meanwhile, Wheeler Dealers played just as confidently in their match with Ross Rowan’s It’s What He Would Have Wanted.

A brace from Jake Hoy and a goal each for James Wheeler and James Ferguson were sufficient to keep Rowan’s men on the back foot for most of the game.

George Weymouth and Mark Chappell both came close to netting a consolation goal in the second half but unfortunately for IWHWHW it didn’t materialise.

Earlier in the night, My Dixie recorded a straight-forward 3-0 win over Colonel Getafe 2.0.

In the Championship, Robert Pichla’s hat-trick helped Smakosze St Albans triumph 7-1 over Kallum Baker’s Leg Day Pending.

Later, Mark Dixon’s Boca Seniors also hit seven in their tie with league newcomers Two Goals One Cup, managed by Daniel Griffin.

Numerous first class saves from Connor Gibson earned him the man of the match accolade although he could not prevent striker Saleem Jabbar from netting a hat-trick.

David Rospo gave Volvo Selekt a narrow 1-0 half-time advantage in their match with Stewart Grice’s Neverbee Athletic.

Grice’s men played with more intent going forward in the second half and this enabled debutant Caleb Gittens to net two goals in succession earning his side the points.
