LUCKY Lemsford Youth Under-11s were given a fright before chalking up their 12th straight league victory.

John Warner Reds gave Mid Herts Rural Minors League Division Two leaders Lemsford their hardest game of the season.

The home side showed the greater desire to get to the ball in a hard-fought first half.

Josh Turnbull still broke the deadlock for Lemsford on 25 minutes.

The ball ran loose on the right for Turnbull to turn the ball back across the keeper into the left corner.

A tense second half saw a penalty missed by the Reds and a Lemsford penalty saved by keeper Kieran Wheeldon, who was superb throughout for John Warner.

Pressure on Lemsford increased when a speculative long-range shot from Louis Dunleavy took a bounce over the Lemsford keeper to level it.

Determined man-of-the-match Sam Robson rescued Lemsford in the closing period of the game.

He beat the defence with some good control and turned to shoot from close range.

The final 2-1 scoreline was somewhat flattering for the visitors, but the Reds have an opportunity to make amends next Saturday when they again take on Lemsford at home in the League Shield.
