Archant

A late winner took Welwyn Pegasus U15 Royals run of MHRML victories up to 11 with a hard-fought 1-0 success at Broxbourne Borough.

Just under 10 minutes remained of the Premier Division encounter when a high press forced a mistake from the home defence and enabled Joe Ashton to slide in and knock home the winner.

It is enough to keep them on top of the table with four games remaining.

The Royals found their hosts very determined and well organised and the excellent defensive displays of both teams kept chances at a minimum in the first-half.

Their best chance in the opening period came from a corner but Tom Saunders’ header went inches wide of the post.

A Harry Sugg ball into the box after the break gave Toby Golding a sight of goal but his first-time shot was fired over the bar.

Jack Wiltshire also had an effort saved following a mazy run but Ashton’s strike brought the three points.
