WELWYN Garden City Ladies continued their pre-season warm-up matches with a 4-1 win over Cambridge United Women on Wednesday night.

This came after the Lady Citizens had comfortable beaten Chelmsford City Ladies 4-0 on the Sunday.

The two victories saw the team blood some of their new signings and younger players who gained experience of playing with more established team members.

After the Cambridge match, Lady Citizens' coach Steve Chivers said: "I'm very pleased with our performances in both matches.

"We've signed some new players in the close season and this was the coaching staff's first chance to see them play and we're pleased with what we've seen.

"This should be an exciting season for the team."

Despite the additions to the current squad, more WGC based women footballers are welcome to train with the town's side.

Chivers added: "We're still keen to encourage more local players and they are welcome to join us at training on Friday evenings at Herns Way, Panshanger."

WGC Ladies conclude their pre-season programme with an away game at Reading Ladies on Sunday.

Their league programme begins with an away fixture at Norwich City on Sunday, August 17.
