WELWYN Garden City Ladies are in the final of the Herts County Cup after whacking Stevenage Borough Ladies 4-0 in the semi-final at Herns Lane on Sunday.
The lady Citizens started the game firmly on the front foot and pressed their Eastern Region South opponents back for long periods.
Against a packed defence, they found it difficult to find a way through.
Nikki Day and Dawn Mallett supplied many good balls into the Stevenage area.
However, weak finishing and some good blocks by the Borough keeper prevented Welwyn from opening the scoring.
The visitors' best attacks were shepherded away from goal by Sheree Oliver, Vicky Neal and Ella Baker in defence.
Shelley Forster found space in midfield and distributed the ball intelligently, enabling Welwyn to retain possession better than in recent weeks.
Day delivered a succession of crosses from the right, from which Oliver went closest on the half hour when her header went narrowly over the bar.
Mallett started to link well with Laveena Betts to create chances as the game neared half-time but still the deadlock remained.
Stevenage had a glorious chance in injury time at the end of the half when Cara Breckenridge was played in and found herself one-on-one with Verity Crook in the home goal.
As she bore down on goal, Crook closed her down and produced her one save of quality in the match to end the first 45 minutes goalless.
Naomi Lyon replaced the injured Day five minutes after the restart and shot wide soon after following Oliver's surging run out of defence.
Mallett finally opened WGC's account on 58 minutes.
Betts supplied a great ball which allowed the forward to close in on goal before firing home.
The goal relaxed the hosts and allowed them to control possession, which culminated with the second goal on 76 minutes.
Debbie Styles started the move on Welwyn's right. She found defender Neal and the ball was worked across the back and into Mallett on the left.
Her precise pass to Betts 10 yards out left her with only the keeper to beat and a right-foot shot saw the ball hit the back of the net.
Two more goals in the following two minutes completed the scoring.
Laura Shearwood's throw towards Mallet was knocked into the Stevenage area, where Lyon's instinctive strike made it 3-0.
Lyon turned provider on 79 minutes when she played in Styles, who hit her first for the club on her return from injury.
WGC will play the winners of the Royston versus Watford Reserves match in the final, which will be played at the County Ground, Letchworth on March 16.
