KING George Vipers Under-9s got the tournament season off to a positive start after reaching the final of their club's inaugural competition.

A fantastic team effort throughout the afternoon was rewarded with wins against Hertford Town, Cheshunt Youth, Wheathampstead and Welwyn Pegasus.

They also drew against another Wheathampstead team in their age section.

This clinched the top spot in the Group B league and a place in the final against pool A winners Hoddesdon Town Youth.

The final was a tense but balanced affair with both teams playing some great end-to-end football.

The match was in the end decided by a freak goal.

A Hoddesdon corner from the right was caught by the wind and looped over the keeper into the top-left of the King George goal.

This was the only goal conceded by the team all afternoon.

After the event Vipers manager, Martin Williams said: "The boys played some fantastic football today and were a real credit to the new club.

"They gave everything that was asked of them and really did themselves and the team proud.

"Well done boys," he added.
