Karen Fisher has said she is “devastated” to be leaving her role as the exodus from Welwyn Garden City gathers pace.

Fisher, the match day secretary and mum to manager Adam’s whose own resignation was the first of an expected deluge, had been volunteering with the Herns Lane-based football club for almost a decade.

And such was her dedication to the role and the club that she was awarded a Lifetime Achievement gong at the Herts Service to Sport Awards in November.

However, her time is now up and like Adam, who cited “budgeting issues” as well as “completely different ambitions” between himself and the club as the reason for his departure, she too has walked away.

Speaking on Twitter she spoke of her sadness that it has come to this.

She said: “It is with deep regret and sadness that I have decided to step away from WGC FC after an incredible nine years.

“I will cherish all the amazing memories and will never forget all the players, managers, sponsors, supporters and volunteers I have met along the way, thanks to you all.”

She added: “I would like to personally thank all the players who I have met on my journey and I’m so sorry that it has ended this way, particularly for this season’s players.

“You are all amazing and I will miss each and every one of you.

“I’m devastated.”
