Hatfield Town have made a shock signing with the capture of a former Tottenham Hotspur player and Colombian international.

Winger Juan Pablo Gonzalez signed on at White Hart Lane from Brentford in 2016 before spending time in both Spain and Bulgaria.

His international experience came with the U17 side and despite being just 21, Hatfield chairman John Shearer believes he can help build Hatfield’s home-grown players up.

He said: “I met with Juan Pablo over a month ago to discuss the club’s direction and targets over the next five years and I made it clear that the club must move forward.

“To do this we need to attract players from a high level, with lots of experience and I’m hoping bringing in Pablo will help our own youngsters we are bringing through.

“They can learn a lot. It’s about Hatfield boys playing with strong players and becoming strong players themselves.”

Gonzalez becomes the second Colombian to join with Diego Torres also in for next season. They will be joined by Ethan Tuttle who moves on loan from Boreham Wood.

Shearer added: “These are exiting times for Hatfield Town Football Club and we are looking to push forward and become the pride of the town.

“Get down to Birchwood to support Hatfield’s biggest club as we head into a new era for Hatfield football.”
