The ESFA Potters Bar Primary Schools district U11 football team booked their place in the nine-a-side Shires Cup final for the third year running with a 1-0 last four victory at Newbury on Saturday.

In a close game the difference was Bar top scorer David Hicks’ 20-yard free-kick which found the top corner.

It was Hicks’ 49th goal of the season.

Bar will play St Albans in the final on Bank Holiday Monday in Gloucester.

Keeper Finlay Herrick was superb in goal. Defenders Albert Wood, captain Jokubas Mazionis, Harrison Hubert and man of the match Freddie Davies were solid against a lively Newbury strike force. Midfielders Antonio Jackson-Ruiz, Hicks, Riley Warmerdam and Callum Howell worked hard for the team throughout the win. Striker Adnan Lembariti tested the defence with his pace.

Bar play Woking on Saturday in the Southern Counties Cup semi-final.
