The glory of international football awaits a University of Hertfordshire student, who runs out for England today (Wednesday).

Lucy Loomes, from Hatfield, has been named in the U19s squad who will take on Italy in a friendly.

The forward faces the Italians in Montepulciano at the Stadio Comunale.

Speaking ahead of the match the sport studies student said: “It felt really good to be in the squad, it is always an honour to represent my country and I’m just excited to get over there and play.

“The university has helped loads as I’ve had non-stop help with the trainers in the performance gym and we’ve got a great bunch of girls in the uni team.”

The 18-year-old is fast becoming a regular in the side as she was selected for two games against Denmark in August and also the UEFA preparation tournament in Slovakia.

They took on Slovakia and Spain ahead of the qualifiers which will take place next spring.
