Hatfield Social’s recent good run of results came to an end at Birchwood in a disappointing 1-0 defeat to in-form Hinton Main.

A disputed penalty after just seven minutes, converted by Clarke Brent, settled the Herts Senior County League Division One match.

It was awarded after a sliding tackle by Charlie Woodward and although Gary McGwyne got a hand to it, he couldn’t keep it out.

Vinnie Davino should have equalised following a great move but managed to blast his shot over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

Simba Matapo alongside Tom Mardle was in inspired form as Social weathered Hinton’s early pressure and Social couldn’t get into a decent rhythm.

The second half followed much the same pattern and a couple of free kicks from Stewart and Mardle almost brought about an equaliser.

But while a draw may have been fair reflection, Hinton closed the game out for their fifth win in six.
