HATFIELD Town manager Trevor Lloyd was a happy man after a 5-2 victory against Hertford Heath saw them progress into the semi-finals of the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy.

After 90 minutes, few would have guessed the correct outcome with the score tied at 2-2 with extra time beckoning.

Midfield general Martin Standen had opened the scoring for Town on 77 minutes, only for the hosts to equalise three minutes later.

Then John McGrandles had seemingly won the game for Lloyd's side with an 88th-minute goal.

But Heath displayed a never-say-die attitude to equalise again almost immediately to send the game into an extra 30 minutes.

However, the Blueboys' superior finishing and fitness came into play.

Jack Evans and a Rhys Lawrence double ensured Town's safe passage into the semi-finals, where they will take on Park Street Village on February 7.
