HOLLYBUSH Characters were crowned WHSFL Division One champions on Sunday after a 5-0 thrashing of league rivals Shamrock Rovers.

Scott Woolmore was brought down in the goalmouth after only five minutes and the referee duly awarded a penalty.

Lewis Owen blasted home the resulting spot-kick.

It wasn't long before Hollybush doubled their lead.

Luke Baverstock's pace and power saw him shrug off the challenge from two defenders and then round the keeper to put the ball into the net.

With half-time looming, Hollybush were awarded a throw-in which was taken by Kev White.

His massive throw homed in on the Shamrock goal and the keeper could only parry the ball into the roof of the net.

Characters continued to dominate the game in the second half and they were awarded another penalty after 70 minutes.

Owen again stepped up to take it and this time nearly broke the back of the net.

Dean Robbins made it 5-0 in the dying minutes of the game.

A ball was played in high towards the Shamrock goal and the Rovers keeper came out to collect the ball.

He fumbled it and dropped the ball at the feet of veteran striker Robbins, who toe-poked it over the line to make the final score 5-0.

Winning the title was a marvellous achievement by the Characters, newly promoted to Division One this season, and brings manager Shaun Campbell his second trophy in his two years with the club.
