Jon Clements may be focused on winning trophies and promotion with Welwyn Garden City but he admitted he can’t help having one eye on the race for the SSML Premier Division golden boot.

The striker took that honour when he was part of London Colney’s title-winning squad last season.

And his double in the Citizens’ 3-1 win over Hoddesdon Town took him to 36 this season, one more than his big rival Harpenden Town’s James Ewington.

Clements said: “I’ve kept an eye on it obviously. As a striker you want to score as many goals as you can.

“I think for both of us, it’s probably a good thing we’re pushing each other to the end but like I said I can only take each game as it comes, whether I play or not.

“But as long as the team keeps winning that’s the most important thing.”

Clements will miss games against Colney Heath, Leighton Town and Wembley as he serves a suspension.
