TOWN captain Martin Standen led by example as he netted the opener in Hatfield's 3-0 win over Cranfield United on Saturday.

For the whole of the 90 minutes Hatfield put in an impressive performance of passing football.

Right from the start it was evident that the Town were in control of the encounter.

It was hard to see that they were in the middle of an intensive programme of fixtures.

From the firm defence, past the cohesive midfield and up to the front where Daniel Staples and Jason Caswell were most effective, the Town showed their class and team work.

The opening goal came on 14 minutes.

Skipper Standen pushed up in support of the forwards and showed them how it was done. He struck a fine effort giving the visiting keeper no chance at all.

Cranfield, in the main, resorted to long ball tactics, but the boys in blue remained firm and continued to play fine football.

It should have been more by the interval but for some fine saves from the Cranfield keeper.

The Town came out for the second half and continued where they had left off.

They added to it on 51 minutes when Gary Coley swept through and slotted home with a brilliant header.

Hatfield then had chance after chance and on 60 minutes the ever-alert Daniel Staples scored with a great strike to finish of the game.

Martin Standen was named as The Mortgage Centre man-of-the-match.
