A late Aylesbury United goal sent Potters Bar Town down to a 2-1 home defeat on the opening day of the Southern League Division One Central season.

The Ducks took a first half lead when on four minutes debutant Eoin Casey fired home low past keeper Mike Underwood having collected the ball from Paul Edgeworth’s flick-on.

After the break Bar got back on level terms as Joe Bennett’s surging run ended with him putting substitute Jerry Maja clear and he drilled a fine effort into the bottom right hand corner.

However, Aylesbury hit the winner in the final 10 minutes as defender Alex Collard ventured forward for a free-kick and then found space to head home Sonny French’s delivery from the right flank.
