WELWYN Garden City and Codicote are safely through to the second round of the Spartan South Midlands League Division One Cup after wins on Tuesday night.

WGC beat Kentish Town 3-1 at Herns Lane, while The Cod triumphed 2-0 at Crawley Green.

Billy Jones put The Citizens ahead after 10 minutes only for Joe Fox to level for the away side five minutes into the second half.

However, Kieran Weekes secured WGC’s path into the second round with a quick-fire brace, netting on 78 and 82 minutes,

Codicote struck in both halves to book their place in the next stage of the competition, Dave Kiddie netted on 27 minutes and Leeroy Williams struck just after the hour mark.

On Saturday WGC travel to Southall and Codicote are away to London Lions.
