LEMSFORD Youth Pumas Under-9s proved their maturity by winning the fair play trophy at a recent football tournament.

The team won the award out of the 24 teams taking part at the Potters Bar tournament last weekend.

The boys enjoyed a superb day of football, held at Potters Bar FC.

Although unfortunate to just miss out on a quarter-final place after only conceding one goal in five group games, the team came away winning the fair play trophy.

Manager Martin Ready was delighted his players were recognised out of 24 teams for their sporting behaviour on the day.

He told the WHT: "I am very proud of the players for the way they have conducted themselves this season.

"It's great to be noticed as such a sporting side.

"We work very hard with the children at Lemsford Youth in developing them as footballers, but most importantly to have respect on and off the field of play, and for other players and match officials.

"This can only be a positive move forward in helping improve the image of our national sport and our stars of the future.

"It is pleasing to see this still exists at grassroots level, with the professional game constantly under scrutiny.
