Welwyn Garden City’s first foray into the Buildbase FA Trophy will begin on round later than expected after they were given a bye to the preliminary round.

The Citizens earned the right to play in non-league football’s premier cup competition after their championship-winning season in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.

And the new Southern League East Division side will start away to Chipstead, another step four outfit who will play in the Bostik South Central.

The match at the Surrey club’s NRT Stadium will be played on Saturday, October 13.

Potters Bar Town’s promotion, which lifted them into the Bostik Premier Division, means they don’t enter the competition until the first qualifying round, now one round later than WGC.

The draw for that round will be made at a later date with the match being played on October 27.
