STRIKER Marcus Cumberbatch announced his Welwyn Garden City return with a brace to hand the Citizens a fine 2-1 triumph over second-placed Tokyngton Manor in the SSML Division One last night (Tuesday).

Cumberbatch has re-joined the Herns Lane club from Herts Senior County League Premier Division side Codicote, following in the footsteps of Lee McDonald and Darren Till who have made the same move in the past two weeks.

The trio all started for City in the clash against the Manor who have the free-scoring Ed Protain in their ranks, he has netted an astonishing 30 times already this season.

It was the hosts who struck first as Carlos Newton, and not Protain for once, netted in the 18th minute and the score remained 1-0 at half-time.

City managed to get back on level terms with 20 minutes left to play as Cumberbatch got on the scoresheet.

The comeback was completed on 85 minutes as Cumberbatch grabbed the winner to secure an impressive victory for Simon Braine’s side.

WGC host Crawley Green at Herns Lane on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
