POTTERS Bar Crusaders Under-13s won an 11-a-side tournament in Hastings.

The boys only entered the competition as a reward for gaining promotion to the Mid Herts Rural Minors League Premier Division.

After finishing the season as Division One runners-up, the team's management decided to take their side to the three-day event in East Sussex.

Twelve teams entered the tournament from all over the country and they were split into two groups.

Crusaders won their pool after recording five victories in which they scored 10 goals and let in just one.

In the final they met Mill Hill, who had topped the other group, netting 15 times without conceding a single goal.

The Potters Bar side realised they were in for a tough match and it appeared even more difficult when they saw the size of some of their opponents.

But the Herts lads went on to win the game 3-0 and collect some silverware, meeting former England, Liverpool and West Ham defender Neil 'Razor' Ruddock on the way.

Boss Floros Christodoulou said: "As the manager of our team and father to a player, I was so proud to see them rise to the occasion and match the opposition for strength and character.
