Crouch could be Tottenham’s Champions League king

TOTTENHAM captain Ledley King believes that Peter Crouch can continue to lead the club’s assault on the Champions League after his hat-trick against Young Boys.

Crouch netted his second treble for the Lilywhites in the 4-0 win at White Hart Lane, firing Spurs into the group stages of Europe’s elite competition.

The 6ft 7ins striker scored 10 Champions League goals in two seasons during his spell at Liverpool, and King is keen to see his team-mate pick up where he left off at Anfield.

“He can be a valuable weapon for us,” said King.

“The continental teams probably aren’t used to the physical side, playing against people like Peter with his height as often as we are in the Premier League.

“He has got a good record in the competition and hopefully we’ll use that to our advantage.

“We’ve got quality within the squad and we’ve got a few players who have played at that level before so they’ll help the rest of the players and I hope we can do well.

“Of course I’m delighted for the players and for the club, after all the hard work that we put in last season. It was important that we got through these two games and we can finally say that we’re in the Champions League now.

“I think with the confidence it brings, the club as a whole gets a real lift. It will bring a new confidence to all of the players when they’re playing at the highest level so we really hope as players and as a club that we can really push on from here.”
