CODICOTE hit Hertford Heath for six with a professional and efficient performance on Saturday.

Dan Kennoy's men beat Heath 6-1 on their travels to climb joint top of the Herts Senior County League Premier Division.

New signing John Vooght was the star of the show with a ruthless first-half hat-trick.

Vooght gave the visitors a perfect start with an early goal on his debut.

Within 10 minutes the recruit from Buntingford Town had latched onto a through ball and clinically finished past oncoming debutant keeper Paul Winder.

With only 15 minutes gone on the referee's clock, Codicote increased their lead, again through Vooght.

Grant Macaree started the move by tenaciously winning the ball back in midfield and found Vooght, who smashed the ball past Winder in the home goal.

Codicote dominated the first 25 minutes of the match, with not only Vooght enjoying the opportunities but also strike partner Richard Griffiths having several chances to increase the lead.

Having beaten Winder to the ball after springing the offside trap, Griffiths rounded the keeper and smashed the ball against the post from a tight angle.

Heath did manage to get themselves back into the game though.

Darren Wells was allowed time at the back post to drive a shot across goal for veteran Heath striker Phil Davies to turn goalwards, giving Codicote keeper Dan Stephenson no chance from close range.

The visitors managed to restore their two- goal cushion just before the break.

Vooght was on hand again to complete a first-half hat-trick.

After collecting a pass from Guiseppe D'Angelo, the league's leading marksman managed to get his shot away under pressure from a Heath defender to give the visitors a 3-1 lead at the interval.

The second period was a one-side affair as Codicote increased their dominance.

Macaree was rewarded for his hard work when the keeper Winder made a horrendous blooper that allowed the midfielder to pass the ball into an empty net from 40 yards out.

Vooght and Griffiths made way for Mark Anderson and Carl Smith on the hour mark.

Sam Devoil also replaced energetic full-back Bruce Bass for the remaining half hour.

Anderson could, and probably should, have scored with his first touch, but his embarrassment was saved when the linesman raised an offside flag.

Fellow substitute Smith on the other hand did take his chances.

His first was a powerful strike from just inside the penalty area that struck the underside of the bar.

The forward was also on hand to finish just in case referee Melvyn Pateman hadn't seen the ball cross the line with the first attempt.

Smith rounded off the scoring with his second and Codicote's sixth goal of the game.

After cleverly twisting inside the penalty area, he dinked the ball over Winder to complete a good victory against a better team than the scoreline would suggest.

"It was a very good performance from all 14 players that took part today," said manager Kennoy afterwards.

"The back four looked solid with good performances from Ryan Solomon and Richard Ashie; John Vooght grabs a first-half hat-trick on his debut and Smith chips in with another two goals to increase his tally to 13 for the season.
