CODICOTE twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Baldock Cannon in a pre-season friendly.

The depleted villagers were well tested against the Hertford and District Premier League side last Wednesday.

With some senior players missing through work commitments and holidays, Codicote manager Dan Kennoy put out an understrength side.

Baldock started brightly and when Stevenson's through ball gave Turner an early chance, it showed their intent to the Codicote defence.

It took only 21 minutes before the Baldock forward would get another opportunity.

Rob Scott played the ball well out of defence to release Turner.

This time he coolly slotted past the Codicote keeper.

Kennoy's side moved the ball well in the early portions of the game and had several well constructed attacks.

They levelled when a defensive mistake by Scott allowed front man Stefan Saywell to lift the ball over the advancing keeper King.

Codicote's defensive line was high and the stand-in keeper virtually played as a sweeper and although Baldock were threatening going forward, they were caught by the offside trap on several occasions.

It was now Codicote's defence who made an error.

Defender Ricky Bridge lost the ball on the edge of the box.

That allowed Stevenson to interchange with Turner and place the ball to the goalkeeper's left, making it 2-1.

Codicote equalised again two minutes before half-time, although the goal was slightly controversial.

Baldock defender Walker appeared to be pushed when jumping for a header.

Play was waved on and Codicote went on to score through Grant Macaree.

The second half was full of chances, most of which fell to Codicote.

However, the visiting keeper never really appeared in much danger with the majority of the chances high or wide.

Baldock did manage a couple of efforts of their own.

A cross from the left was met with a powerful header that the Codicote keeper kept out.

With a goalless second period, the score ended 2-2.

Speaking afterwards, Kennoy said: "It's disappointing not to have won, but we showed some grit and determination to come from behind twice.

"Stefan showed again he knows where the back of the net is and he has impressed when he's been given a chance.

"Well have a competition for places this season, which will only strengthen us.
