CODICOTE rounded off their pre-season fixtures with a 2-0 defeat to Dunstable Town's second string.

Manager Dan Kennoy rested several first team players for the first league game against Standon and Puckeridge played last Saturday (August 16).

Young goalkeeper Wayne Simpson deputised for Gary Statham, Carl Smith also featured after returning from holiday.

Apart from conceding in the 18th minute with a well taken strike from 20 yards there wasn't much to be said about Codicote's first half performance.

Stefan Saywell worked tirelessly up front however and Smith was causing problems going forwards but rarely threatened the visiting goalkeeper.

The second half went as the first, although Codicote did come close several times from set pieces. First Grant Macaree and then Ashley Daniels mis-directed headers at the back post from corners.

Then Daniels unfortunately conceded a penalty 15 minutes from time when the ball struck his arm inside the box.

Simpson had no chance with the finely struck penalty from the Dunstable front man, the game finished 2-0.
