CODICOTE got their season off to a roaring start with a 3-1 victory against last season's high flyers Standon & Puckeridge.
Following the friendly defeat against Dunstable, manager Dan Kennoy recalled Gary Statham, Gareth Hopkins and Mark Anderson to the starting line-up.
Having to deal with several players still unavailable to injury and holidays, Kennoy certainly looks to have strengthened his side over the summer months.
After the game, Kennoy said: "It's great to get off to a winning start.
"And to come back from a goal down showed me that the lads are willing to show some grit and determination this season to not give up in games."
Codicote started the game nervously and were rarely a threat to the visitor's goal.
With just under 20 minutes gone on the referee's clock Puckeridge managed to break through with the help of some overall poor defending.
Codicote full-back Hopkins didn't stop the cross from the left and it was met unchallenged at the near post by the oncoming Puckeridge midfielder to score the opener.
The conceded goal was the catalyst for Codicote's performance to improve.
Mark Anderson and Carl Smith both forced good saves from the Puckeridge keeper which could have easily seen the home side go into the half-time break 2-1 up, instead they were 1-0 down.
Codicote started the second half as they ended the first.
On the 54th minute Kennoy introduced new signing Pete Duffy.
With his first touch the young winger had managed to draw the game level.
It was now one way traffic.
Kennoy called upon his bench again, this time Stefan Saywell making way from another debutant Steve Teale.
It was on 62 minutes that the breakthrough came.
Grant Macaree broke forward from midfield and drove a low shot from 20 yards goalwards, the ball bounced just in front of the keeper before finding itself in the back of the net to make it 2-1.
Teale then also managed to get on the score sheet when the ball fell kindly to him inside the box, and the big striker coolly placed the ball past the keeper on 72 minutes.
With the game finishing 3-1, Codicote appear on track for a solid season in the Herts Senior County League Premier Division.
Kennoy added: "We can't forget that there are a lot of new faces this season and it may take some time for it all to blend together but I think that will come.
