Welwyn Garden City 3 Leverstock Green 2

AFTER four league games without a win, WGC collected all three points on Tuesday night after beating Leverstock Green 3-2 at Herns Lane.

Kevin Chakaodza, Jordan Lockie and Adam Reid got the goals as the Citizens beat Green for the second time in a week.

The previous Tuesday Howard Cowley's men had knocked the Pancake Lane-based side out of the Herts Charity Shield 4-1.

On-loan Edgware striker Chakaodza opened the scoring for City in only the second minute on Tuesday.

His shot from a tight angle beat 17-year-old debutant keeper Craig Weston.

Dale Sears levelled for the away side just before the half hour when he fired home a low drive from outside of the area.

Ten minutes later and the Citizens regained the lead in somewhat fortunate circumstances.

Midfielder Jordan Lockie took a corner on the left and his ball into the box somehow looped over the young keeper and straight into the net.

WGC managed to increase their advantage after the break.

Green failed to clear a cross from Chakaodza on 57 minutes and Adam Reid was there to fire into the net.

As they attacked looking to get back into the game, Leverstock scored through an ex-Citizen.

Former Herns Lane regular Matt Wardle nodded in a free-kick to reduce the deficit to a single goal.

The home side held on and despite being put under pressure by the visitors they saw out the 3-2 victory.

Saturday will see another Herts derby at Herns Lane.

Promotion-chasing Hertford Town will provide stiff opposition as they make the shirt trip along the A414 to Welwyn Garden City.
