Prior to their Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division return, Welwyn Garden City FC have announced three pre-season friendlies.

The Citizens, who last competed in the SSML’s top division seven years ago, will take on Southern League Division One Central outfit Barton Rovers at an as of yet unknown venue on Saturday, July 18 before facing off against another side from the same league, Bedford Town, on July 25.

Sandwiched in between these fixtures for Adam Fisher’s men is a much anticipated visit to Essex Senior League Clapton at their Spotted Dog Ground in East London.

Last October, the Tons’ fans lit up Herns Lane with their flares and favours, when they visited for an FA Vase tie, which WGC won 3-0.

Relations between the clubs remain very cordial and thus have arranged a visit to the Tons on Wednesday, July 22, kick-off 7-45pm.

There is also Essex Senior League opposition for WGC in this year’s Herts Charity Shield as WGC entertain Sawbridgeworth Town.

A date for the tie - which has to be played before either club’s league season commences - hasn’t yet been decided, but Saturday, August 1 or Wednesday, August 5, are being considered.
