Blueboys knocked out of Herts Charity Shield

Hatfield Town’s 2015/16 season started with defeat as they were eliminated from the Herts Charity Shield by Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side Tring Athletic 3-0 on Tuesday night.
In Kev Pearman’s first competitive match in charge at the Gosling Stadium, Athletic took the lead in the 15th minute as Kieran Turner finished a swift move.
That was how it stayed up until the interval and then deep into the second half as the Blueboys matched their higher-ranked opponents step for step.
Tring keeper Matt Evans pulled off two fine saves within moments of each other, first tipping a free kick over the crossbar before denying Town a certain leveller from a corner.
Having rode their luck, the Hertfordshire side finally ended the hosts’ aspirations of forcing extra-time.
Chris Vardy arrived late to latch onto Turner’s cheeky flick from a move that he started.
Three minutes later the game was put well and truly beyond Hatfield when Vardy picked out debutant Jamie Irons who controlled and then swept the ball past the keeper.
The Blueboys begin their Spartan South Midlands League Division One campaign at home to newly-promoted Brimsdown next Tuesday (August 11).
